How to read QMEH4GN

Sun part numbers are the model followed by one code per option. Hyphens, slashes and spaces are only dividers, so QMEH4GN, QMEH4-GN, QMEH4 GN are the same part.

ModelQMEH4 — Sun Hydraulics Cartridge-style flow meter flow control valve
Flow RateG — 4 gpm 0.5-4.5 V (15 L/min.)
Seal MaterialN — Buna-N
Material / coatingAdd /AP (stainless steel, passivated) or /LH (mild steel, zinc-nickel) to the end; no suffix is the standard finish.

Technical features

  • Performance was validated using a fluid having a viscosity of 24 cSt. As the viscosity increases past 50 cSt, the maximum capacity begins to decrease. When it reaches 200 cSt a 12.5% decrease in capacity was observed. Flow at fluid viscosities higher than 200 cSt cannot be reliably measured with this flow meter.
  • All ports are rated to 5000 PSI maximum operating pressure. The valve is insensitive to backpressure up to the rated pressure.
  • Rated at IP69K (with IP69K rated mating connector).
  • Position sensor (US Patent # 12,484,150) is CE and E-Mark approved.
  • The performance of the 50 GPM and 35 GPM versions is sensitive to the size of the port hit diameter at Port 2. Optimal performance is achieved with a port hit diameter larger than 1 inch. Some recommended three-letter bodies are model code IA* with a port size designation larger than 1 inch (SAE 16).
  • When powered and there is no flow, the resting output of the sensor is 0.5V/4mA and increases to 4.5V/20mA as the flow increases, up to the upper limit of the flow range. Flow rates above the upper limit of the flow range will not cause the signal output to go higher than 4.5v/20mA . Therefore, flows higher than the published range cannot be measured and will output the maximum of either 4.5v/20mA.
  • Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.

Frequently asked questions

Is QMEH4GN the same as QMEH4-GN?

Yes. Sun Hydraulics writes this part number as QMEH4GN. It is the model QMEH4 followed by the configuration code; hyphens, slashes and spaces are only dividers, so QMEH4GN, QMEH4-GN, QMEH4 GN all refer to the same product.

Do you supply QMEH4GN in the UAE, GCC and India?

Yes. MultiFlow supplies genuine Sun Hydraulics cartridges, including QMEH4GN, to customers in the UAE, the wider GCC and India. Use Add to Enquiry on this page for availability, lead time and a quotation.

Can I get the datasheet and CAD files?

Yes. The datasheet, technical reference sheets and CAD files (DXF, DWG, STP) are listed in the Downloads section of this page.

What happens if I overflow the sensor past the upper end of the range?
Overflowing the sensor is unlikely to cause damage. However, the output signal is saturated at the bounds which means you will be unable to rely on sensor output to inform if an overflow condition has occurred.
I'm using a port hit diameter smaller than 1 inch on a 35 gpm/50 gpm range. What should I expect?
If the port hit diameter is smaller than 1 inch, somewhat counter intuitively, the capacity increases. Instead of 50 gpm, the capacity increases to 55 gpm and instead of 35 gpm, the capacity increases to 37 gpm range. The error tolerance is then applied from the new nominal. The increase in capacity is because the local backpressure caused by the port actually reduces the stroke of the piston.
Can the sensor be calibrated under the conditions specific to my application?
It may be possible to configure the sensor output under specific customer conditions depending on the application requirements. Please submit a request through our NPI portal if you have a need for custom flow ranges or other specific operating conditions.
